Hair Loss Treatments: Are They A Scam?
There are a lot of crooks, cowboys and snake oil salesmen out there; all promising to reestablish your hairline with proprietary blends of ingredients you can’t pronounce, made-up words and elaborate claims. Make sure you stick to the tried and tested treatments – like our clinically proven hair loss treatments – while avoiding the fakes. Here’s what to look out for.
An insulin cartridge never has “Amazing results. Fast!” printed on it. An oncology ward won’t have “The miracle cure YOU need” plastered above the door. Your local A&E probably doesn’t have “Over 99 billion served” on an A-board by the triage nurse.
First thing’s first, if you’re considering a hair loss treatment that has phrases similar to “instant results” or “flowing locks in 30 seconds” emblazoned across its products, you’d be wise to avoid it. Hair loss services that use effective treatments like Finasteride and Minoxidil take months to produce results – not minutes. And while the caffeine in our Power Shampoo helps stimulate hair follicles, it won’t magic hair onto your head in an instant.
Finasteride and Minoxidil are highly successful treatments, but it can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months for results to appear. For those who want something more instant, hair transplant surgery provides a popular—albeit expensive—alternative. According to a 2017 survey by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), over 635,189 hair transplant surgeries were performed in 2016. Unfortunately, the growing demand for transplants has resulted in an increase in unlicensed practitioners.
A quick google will reveal the potential consequences of frequenting one of these illicit operations. If you want to spend a solid chunk of money on the procedure at a licensed clinic, you’ll probably be pleased with the results. However, if you’d rather avoid them at all costs, clinically trialled and proven treatments like Finasteride and Minoxidil are the best way to regain your hair.
One plus is that they work for the vast majority of men who use them. Another is they don’t require you to get your scalped sliced and diced (at a cost of thousands).
There are various products out there that claim to promote hair growth with vigorous tactile stimulation. They come in the form of brushes, massagers and, in some cases, magnets. None of them will make your hair grow back. Devices that deliver low level laser therapy to the scalp have also been shown to work in some patients. However, users report mixed results.
Finasteride and Minoxidil are the only hair loss treatments that have undergone extensive testing and have been shown to work in the majority of users. Results are usually seen after three to six months of regular use. It may seem like a bit of a slog, but it’s certainly going to yield results faster than any lasers or magnets. Our Finasteride and Minoxidil treatments start as low as £18 per month.
Finasteride. Minoxidil. These multisyllabic terms sound very chemical-y and intimidating, so it’s worth reiterating that Finasteride and Minoxidil are the only hair loss treatments that have been studied extensively and trialled on thousands of men. Still, ‘natural’ remedies may sound safer, but they’ve rarely (read: never) been through the same thorough testing as the treatments we offer.
While Finasteride and Minoxidil are also no guarantee against the effects of Male Pattern Baldness, research shows that Finasteride halts hair loss or regrows hair in 9 out of 10 men, while Minoxidil is effective in 6 out of 10 men. Combined, they work in over 90% of men. Donald Trump’s former doctor even POTUS was taking Finasteride, and while you may not agree with his politics, you must admit he’s got a solid head of hair.
The impact of hair loss can make you go to desperate lengths to find a solution. As tempting as it is to take a punt on a miracle cure, it’s not worth the risk. Stick with the tried and tested (extensively, by scientists and doctors) methods.
